During your smile consultation, Dr. Urda will discuss options such as teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, dental bonding, and more to tailor a treatment plan to your specific concerns and goals. Are dental X-rays safe?

Patients may have concerns about the safety of dental X-rays. At Smile Science Chicago, we often address these concerns with our patients by explaining the minimal radiation exposure and the benefits of diagnostic imaging for detecting dental issues. Digital X-rays reduce the amount of radiation exposure by up to 80% compared to traditional film. We also use the Nomad, the latest and greatest in X-ray technology. Team members no longer leave the room, and the patient does not require a lead vest!

How do I know I am a good candidate for dental implants?

Individuals who have an interest in dental implants should schedule a consultation with Dr. Urda as their first step in determining if they are a candidate for dental implants. She will assess factors such as overall health, oral health, bone density, and other considerations to determine if you are a suitable candidate for implant treatment. Dr. Urda will also use 3D CT Scans for the precise placement of your implant by determining bone volume, density, and location of important structures.

What can I do to overcome my fear of going to the dentist?

Our patients often seek our advice on how to manage and overcome dental anxiety. We may recommend relaxation techniques or deep breathing exercises, as well as ensure our dental team is aware of your concerns so that they can provide a calming and safe place during your procedure. We also offer many levels of sedation dentistry in Lincoln Park to support mild to moderate anxiety or multiple procedures needing to be done at one time.

How can I finance dental treatments?

Dr. Urda advises her patients to place the tooth back in the socket if possible or store it in milk or saliva until they can be seen. If in pain and unable to secure an appointment, please seek emergency care promptly.

I cracked my crown. What should I do?

A cracked crown can happen for many reasons. Biting down on a hard surface, a misaligned bite, or grinding of the teeth can cause a crown to crack. Dr. Urda will evaluate the severity of the crack and any associated symptoms to determine whether immediate attention is needed or if the issue can be addressed during a regularly scheduled appointment.

Will I be completely unconscious during sedation?

Some patients are concerned about being completely unconscious during dental procedures. We offer Bucktown sedation dentistry that can vary from minimal sedation to deep sedation, also known as Twilight Sleep. The choice depends on the patient’s comfort level and the nature of the procedure. A sedation consultation will allow you to discuss your needs before moving forward with treatment.
